Around 10 days before our Midterms, I made a 7-day study plan to fully prepare myself for the test. I made it very detailed and realistic including the subjects to study, what-to-do, naps, and I even put what time I would rest and sleep. I used Google calendar where I could see my plans on both my laptop and phone. It even reminded me that I should already start “this” in five minutes (depending on how you set it). Looking at it, it looked effective because of the details I put into it.
But as days passed, I was not able to follow it religiously. I spent the days not the way I planned it for various reasons. First, I had tasks that I did not see coming. They were errands that I was asked to do unexpectedly and I cannot say no to these. They were also very urgent so I had to do them on the day I was asked to do so. In addition, I had events that were out of my schedule. I had to attend these instead of actually studying. One of these was a requirement in my Theology class.
Second, I was too tired to start studying. Every day, I have allotted 30-45 minute naps as I found them effective in boosting my energy. But for the past days, I needed more time to nap. I have had an average of 2-3 hours every day. I also remember drinking a cup of coffee every day just to stay awake and study. I wanted to give my body rest before actually studying as I believe that would be more effective
Third, I did not have the study materials that I needed. I have written “make flashcards” for every subject on my study plan but I was not able to fulfill it. I did not have topics to review which are given by my teachers. I just felt like I did not want to waste time making and studying them that had topics not included on our test. But it was also good that thing happened because I did not need flashcards with my other flashcards.
This was my first time making a detailed study plan. I just realized that it may not go as how I planned it to be. As the term implies, it is a plan which is made to serve as a guide. It does not mean it will exactly be as it is. I just learned that there will be hindrances that will occur. So maybe next time, I will make it more flexible and allot time for the unexpected events.
Like I do, I hope you realize that the plans that were not accomplished are not solely your fault. There could be other factors such as I have mentioned above. Do not be too harsh on yourself. Also, although you are studying to ace your exams, I hope you have enough rest and sleep. It was also proven that sleep plays a vital role in sleep consolidation.
