Flashcards
are no way peculiar study materials for students. I, myself, have used these
for the past two years. As I was to fight another battle called midterms, I
have planned on making flashcards on each of my subjects as I believe it is the
best way to remember information. I even scheduled when I will make them on my
study plan. But unfortunately, I did not have the topics to review early so I
was not able to make them right away.
Thinking
about it, I realized I am already behind my schedule. Calculating how much time
I have left, I do not have enough time to make flashcards for all of my
subjects. Then, I decided to just make flashcards on the subjects that I think
I needed the most. They were the subjects that required intense memorization.
The flashcard app I use is Quizlet because of the gamification that makes it
more engaging and fun. I also share my study sets to my classmates.
Then
the rest of my subjects, I studied by reading the book/handouts and trying to
understand the topics. When I believe I already understood the lesson, I tried
to remember the facts. Then, I tried to retrieve the information in my brain by
writing what I remember on a whiteboard. If there were holes and gaps in what I
have written, I looked once again on my notes and write it so I can remember
it. I did that multiple times until I am confident that I already know and
understand it.
As a
visual learner, I honestly found this very effective as I best learn by
writing. It sticks to my mind that way. I think this method did not make me
waste my time in typing terms and definitions but it was equally or maybe more
effective than flashcards. Before I slept, I hang my whiteboard somewhere I can
see it when I wake up. So when I was passing through, I got to recall myself.
